Spotlight on Maree Pigdon

What is your role at GenV and why did you get involved with GenV? 

I started working with GenV in 2021 as a field recruiter and later became the Area Manager at Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s hospital. During that time, I was also part of the Statewide Virtual Recruitment team which is my current role within GenV.

I have worked as a Midwife for many years, and I have a passion for child and family health. GenV has given me the opportunity to make a positive contribution to improving health outcomes for children and families.

How do you think GenV will help current and future generations?

As a midwife and as a parent, my hope is that we can continue to develop better solutions for some of these big issues that our children are facing today.  GenV is such an inclusive project which enables researchers to gain valuable insight into the health of all Victorians.

GenV has the potential to enhance the health and wellbeing of a whole generation of Victorian families and for generations to come and the possibilities are endless!

What is one piece of advice that you have for future parents going through pregnancy right now?

Get to know what is important to you and ask as many questions as you need to, don’t be afraid to ask for as much information as you need.  This is your journey, trust yourself and your decisions and practice self-care.

What do you want to say to the midwives working in our community?

I have had the privilege of working with some extraordinary midwives who have mentored me and been so generous with their knowledge and experiences. Midwives care so deeply about the wellbeing of the families they work with, and they sometimes endure very difficult situations in their everyday work. To all the beautiful and amazing midwives in our community, thank you for being so wonderful, caring and selfless in your efforts to provide women and family centred care to the families you care for!
